Cosima Buccoliero graduated in law from the University of Bologna with a thesis on criminal law and a special emphasis on labor matters. She then went on to serve as a legal prosecutor and to become a lawyer. From 1997 to 2001 she served as the vice-warden at the Cagliari prison. She moved to Rome to work in the department for corrections administration and, since 2003, has been the Deputy Director at the Bollate prison, where she is actively involved in a new, community-oriented institutional model. She has delivered countless speeches on legal matters at schools in order to raise awareness and overcome biased preconceptions.
